Priyanka Gandhi Visits Her Fathers Assassin In Jail

"It's completely personal, I don't want to say anything about it. I needed to make peace with all the violence in my life," said Priyanka Gandhi. Priyanka is the daughter of Rajiv Gandhi ( an assassinated prime minister of India) and Sonia Gandhi (current person in charge of the ruling Congress party) and granddaughter of Indira Gandhi ( the first woman prime minister of India also assassinated) Her father, Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomb in May 1991 while he addressed an election rally. India has always blamed the attack on Tamil Tiger rebels. Ms Gandhi said she met Nalini Sriharan last month in a prison in Vellore in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. Sriharan was convicted for being part of the assassination squad. She was initially given a death sentence along with three others. But her sentence was changed into a life term, following a plea for clemency by Rajiv Gandhi's widow and Congress Party president, Sonia Gandhi because she had a young child. You can read the rest in the BBC story link. I for one think its great to make peace with the hatred and pain inside ourselves...but being of such a political family has its costs....there are certain politically motivated people who are making a big deal out of this visit and citing conspiracy have invoked the Right to Information Act to know how and why she could have been allowed to meet her fathers assassin.
